PATRICK'S DAY 1964 BACK TO THE FUTURE St. Patrick's Day 1964, a date that lives forever in the hearts and minds of Irish Men and Women, will be revisited on this week's Volpe Report. We will have special Guest Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Independent Candidate for President of the United States, appearing on the Show to recall with Show Host Chuck Volpe his father's famous visit on that day 60 years ago. Robert F. Kennedy, then Attorney General of the United States, came to Scranton as the main speaker for that years Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Dinner at the Hotel Casey. For those that are not old enough to remember the significance of that visit, the appearance by the Attorney General and future United States Senator, and leading Democratic contender for the Presidency of the United States in 1968, was that it was his first major public appearance after the assassination of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, who had recently been assassinated in Dallas. According to most historical reports, Bobby Kennedy, as he was known, was in deep mourning and depression after the death of his brother, refusing all public appearances. After some convincing by family and friends, who believed it would be cathartic, he agreed to come to Scranton. The Show will feature clips from that evening's black tie event.
