ADVERTISEMENT The Area's Top Political Talk Show for the 11th Year Volpe Report SUNDAY MORNINGS 10:30 AM FOX 56 PA HOUSE SPEAKER: SCHOOL FUNDING FORMULA: $6.2 BILLION It's going to cost $6.2 billion to fix a broken, unconstitutional state school funding formula system and now lawmakers have to figure out where the money will come from to reimburse hundreds of school districts that were short changed over the years. The Scranton School District alone will be due $30 million. In February, after the Commonwealth Court ruled that the funding system being used by the state to reimburse school districts was unconstitutional, the price tag was pegged at $4.2 billion. But, at the time, expenses like special education, the money districts can't recoup when students leave for charter schools and the steep increase in required payments by districts into the state pension were not calculated in. On Sunday, Pennsylvania House of Representatives Speaker Joanna McClinton brings her thoughts on the school funding situation to The Volpe Report at 10:30 a.m. of FOX56, saying the public will have a chance to comment on the matter at a series of 20 public hearings on the issue, which are scheduled around the state, the first of which was conducted Tuesday in Allentown. Speaker McClinton will also discuss her agenda and legislative accomplishments during her first six months in office.
