31 YEARS OF AUDIOLOGY S Ross Audiology Services 444. N. Main Ave., Scranton (570) 344-9970 www.rossaudiology.com Question: Help! My hearing aids don't sound as good as they did when I first purchased them. What can I do? Answer: No matter how careful you are, the ear canal is a warm, humid place and moisture develops in the speaker of the hearing aid. Condensation as you go from cold to warm and back to cold temperatures can build up. Humidity in the air. particularly in the spring and summer affects the microphones and the inner workings of the hearing aids. Moisture causes a reduction in sound volume and clarity. I've always recommended dehumidifiers for hearing aids and have discussed this in the past. But now, I have SOMETHING BRAND NEW TO ASK THE EXPERT TELL YOU ABOUT....REDUX! REDUX is a water removal treatment system that leaves hearing aids sounding better in about 8-10 minutes. After treatment, the hearing aids sound clearer and louder about 80% of the time according to the manufacturer. They also report that repeating the treatment every 3-6 months keeps the aids sounding better and requiring fewer repairs. We began integrating the Redux Treatment into our routine hearing aid check appointments 1 month ago and noticed that out of 80 treatments, 70 of the hearing aids sounded clearer and about 60 sounded louder. We had 3 hearing aids that were completely "dead" (not functioning) when they came in. 2 out of 3 began to work normally following the treatment and 1 began to work again, but sounded "weak" (not functioning as well as it should). Summer is coming and so are the heat and humidity that wreak havoc with hearing aids. If you are one of our regular patients, you will be automatically receiving this treatment when you come for hearing aid checks. you have hearing aids that were purchased elsewhere, we would be happy to help you. You can schedule an appointment to have your hearing aids cleaned and put through the Redux Treatment System. The cost is $40 and we think you'll be pleased. We have been very impressed with the results. DR. SERENA MARIE ROSS Doctor of Audiology 31 YEARS OF AUDIOLOGY S Ross Audiology Services 444. N.
